The domain history
The Domaine de Tholomies has a very ancient, rich history, in particular thanks to the exceptional owners who have succeeded each other over the centuries. The first visible traces of the Abbaye de Tholomies are Roman. The discovery of a well in the barrel storehouse is the proof of this. The Visigoths then took over, around the 4th century. A written document dating from 977 mentions the "Domaine de Tolomiano" as being the property of the Vicomtesse de Narbonne. She then gave it to the clergy who finished building the Abbey in 997. The wars of religion in the early 11th century meant the history of the domain was somewhat turbulent, passing into the hands of the Cathars and then the Templars...Emblematic figures succeeded each other down the centuries.
In addition to the 49 hectares of organic vines, the wooded parkland around the building endows this domain with a rare authentic charm. The diversity of the soil is important and allows good harmonisation between the various grape varieties.
Tholomies in Occitan means « All the best » symbolizing the richness of those wines produced all over the centuries. The Minervois La Livinière appellation is part of the four “crus classés” in the Languedoc region.
